Release Resource Program

Salt Lake, Utah

~227 sq. ft.

Individuals released from jail are too often confronted with addiction, untreated mental illness, homelessness, and other challenges that frequently result in additional incarcerations. Salt Lake County’s (SLCo) Jail Release Resource Center (JRRC) project proposes to disrupt repetitive cycles of recidivism.

The JRRC offers a variety of free services that help individuals upon release from incarceration. They wanted their space to be more trauma-informed, and create an environment that would draw in clients and make them feel safe and secure, therefore more likely stopping to utilize the services offered.

The concept the moon rising up and then setting over a mountain range embodies cycles and new beginnings, while the natural elements like the mountains and wood grain textures bring calming elements to the space. The whole piece conveys the overcoming of hard obstacles that were in your path.
